What is Coverfly Writer Search & Messaging?
With Writer Search & Messaging, you can now reach out to writers across Coverfly with similar interests to you to chat, ask questions, and maybe even find your next writing group buddy! Not interested? It’s easy to turn off Messaging.
How do I access Writer Search & Messaging?
You can access Writer Search & Messaging from the main navigation bar. The magnifying glass will take you to “Search” and the envelope will take you to Messaging. You can toggle between the two areas via a sub menu when you are on either page.
Why did you create Writer Search & Messaging?
For years, writers have asked us for a way to reach out to other writers as a way to build community.
Can I do a group message via this tool?
Not yet! Group messaging is future functionality we are evaluating.
Can I use Writer Search and/or Messaging without a Coverfly Account?
No, you must have a Coverfly account and you must be logged in. This service is only available between Coverfly members.
Are there any age restrictions for using Coverfly Search and Messaging?
Yes, you must be 18 years or older to use this service. When you try to send or receive a message you will be asked to verify your age if your birthdate is not in your profile.
Do you store my birthdate on my profile when you verify my age?
We only store your birthdate if you select that you would like it added to your profile.
How do I search for another writer?
You can use the magnifying glass icon which will bring you to the search screen. From there you can use a writer's name, location, Guild membership, life experience, or representation status.
You can also do a ‘quick search’ from the Messaging page. Click on the little red icon (thought bubble) and from here you can search by writer name.
What are email notifications?
All Coverfly Messaging takes place within the application. When you receive a new message from another writer you will get notified by seeing a red dot on the envelope menu the next time you log in. If you don’t check Coverfly often and would like to receive an email when you get new messages, toggle on email notifications!
How do I turn on or off email notifications?
Click on the gear icon from the Messaging (letter) menu at the top of the screen. You can toggle email notifications on or off.
How do I send a message for the first time?
First, use the provided Writer Search to find the writer you want to message. Then, you can send them a message directly from the search results (envelope icon) or after reviewing their Coverfly writer profile (Red “Send a message” button).
What if I can’t find a writer that I know is on Coverfly?
The writer you are searching for has likely set their profile to private. It’s also possible that they have blocked you.
How do I set my account to private?
Under Settings>Security, you have the option to allow other writers to find you through Coverfly (or not). Please be aware that even if you set your account to private in Coverfly, it only hides you from Writer Search.t will not make your Coverfly public profile (on the internet) private as well.
How do I turn off messaging?
Under Settings>Security, you will find a toggle under “Privacy’ to enable messaging (or disable). This turns off the ability for any other writers to message you.
Another writer is bothering me by writing to me after I have asked them to stop. What can I do?
You can block and/or report them. See below for more details on your preferred option.
How do I block another user from contacting me?
If you find that you no longer wish to have contact with an individual that has been messaging you, you can block them from finding you and from continuing the conversation. To block an individual, click the 3 dots next to their name in the messaging application. Select ‘Block User’.
You will have the option to report them at the same time. Please note that if you block a user, the previous conversation with them will be hidden for both of you.
How do I unblock a user that I have previously blocked?
To unblock a user, go to Settings>Security>Blocked Users and click the “Unblock” button next to their name.
How can I report a user that is being abusive?
If you find that a user is being abusive or disruptive and you would like to report them to Coverfly staff (for a warning and or banning from the platform), click the 3 dots next to their name in the messaging application. Select “Report User”. When this option is selected, you will be given the opportunity to select a reason, describe the concern, add screenshots, and block the user. When you report a user, Coverfly staff is notified and they will take appropriate action. Please note that we do not inform users of other users’ status, so you will not receive a notification of these actions. .
Can I include attachments in my messages?
No, at this time attachments are not allowed.
Can I use emoji in my messages?
At this time, emoji are not built into our messaging application.But if you access Coverfly with your mobile phone, the built-in emoji keyboard will work.
Is it ok to promote my coverage business via writer messaging?
No. It continues to be a violation of our Terms of Use to sell anything via our platform without explicit permission (in writing) from Coverfly
What should I do if someone is trying to sell me something via writer messaging?
Please report them via the “report a user” function and Coverfly staff will evaluate.
